Hi Joyce,
I'm so pleased your lovely dog Moose Track has recovered and will have the chance to spend a long and happy life with you. Thank you for telling me his story. In Sasha's case, she was just ten weeks old when she first broke her leg, (elbow joint), got the all clear last month, and then last week she jumped over a baby gate and landed badly. The surgeon said she must have landed in the one way out of a million that would have caused it to break again in the same place. We can only hope the new screws and plate he'll fit next Monday will effect a permanent repair and that we can keep her out of trouble long enough for it to heal.
Best wishes to you and Moose Track and thanks for the lovely pic of him.
Sasha says hi to you both.
HI, I'm Joyce,
I have a 8 mo old English Lab Retriver, He massivly broke his front right leg when he was 4 mo old. He popped out the shoulder socket, The elbow he shattered the whole inside of it, And compound fractured the long bone, Plus broke some small bones in his paw. Our vets Bone surgeon was in the hospital going to have a kidney stone out the next day. So they call other vets offices to no avail,, They told my I'd have to take him to Cornell, I could no afford that. They said they would have to take the leg off. I had just a year ago lost my Service Dog, and it took me a year to give in and finally get Moose Track....... I just ran out crying, They gave him pain medication and got him stable till we decided what to do. It was suggested to put him to sleep as his breed they get real heavy in the chest head and upper region.
We went home to think it over, We soon got a call that Dr Brooks was going to sign himself out of hospital do 2 other dogs that were in need of surgery and then go back and still have his stones remover,,
SO that's what they did, Moose Track, had 4 screws put in a plate, 6 pins, and in the elbow area some wire, He will always walk with a limp, and have arthritis bad. He is to be neutered next week, and he thinks the pins may be making him in some pain so he will X ray him and take them out while under.
These pets of ours are pretty fiesty kids. They sure can keep us guessing. I feel bad for you though, 2 times. Does she have soft bones or did this just happen???
Poor little Sasha she has been through so much. I hope this time the surgery will repair her joint for good. I will keep her in my thoughts and prayers, please give her a really big hug for me.
Kathi
