My boy is gettin old...

Max, my rottie is the love of my life. He was born on January 26, 1996 and will soon be 12 years old. Last July he had to have a hernia operation and it really took alot out of him. Tonight I had to take him back to the vet again for another hernia! It's breaking my heart. This dog saved my life once and I can't stand the thought of anything happening to him. Whoever reads this, please keep Max in your thoughts and prayers.

PLEASE! PLEASE! PLEASE!

Here I am again, bright and early, and I might add a very COLD morning. As some of you might know I work at a very small Humane Society, I am going to ramble on (as my dear hubby puts it) PLEASE! PLEASE! PLEASE! when you are considering getting a pet no matter what it may, whether you adopt or purchase, THINK it through. As I posted on my last blog , I was so happy for “Gracie”(a 3 yr old dog, we rescued from Animal Control, housebroken, knows her manners, great w/ kids. Her “owners got…

An old toad

During the summer my boyfriend found a very large bark-colored female southern toad with small eyes, and gave her to me. She adjusted well with the other toads, which oddly in captivity, seem to be very social creatures. She ate well and plumped up. I received news last night of her passing. She just went to a corner by herself and peacefully went. Mum looked her over and couldn't find evidence of any illness or problems. Judging by her size, I would say she lived a very long life, and… Continue

Today

Today was a great day! I adopted out one kitten Hazel a sweet little orange tabby, one cat Misty who was dumped at our gate this past spring with a litter of kittens, her kittens have long since been adopted out, but poor Misty was over-looked. Kitten Season really hurts the older cats chances of adoption through the Spring and Summer months. (yeeaaaahhhhh! Older cats are really hard to find homes for)Our lil puppy TippyTina went home today, to a really nice couple.… Continue

Sunny Day!

Guess what? Pop-pop felt good today and sat outside with me for a while! Oh what fun! We watched mommy try to sow some grass seed. I think she's just really feeding the birds... lol!

Tonight there was a feral cat hiding in the driveway. I chased it all the way across 2 properties! Mommy got real mad though. I don't know why, doesn't she trust me to come back??? Silly Mommy, I know where the beggin strips come from!

Halloween safety for pets

Halloween is supposed to be scary, but for pets it can be downright dangerous.

“Getting a dog is like getting married. It teaches you to be less self-centered, to accept sudden, surprising outbursts of affection, and not to be upset by a few scratches on your car.”

Today I Made a Difference

I'll never bring about world peace. I won't single handedly save the rain forest. I'm not a brain surgeon and I'll never transplant an organ to save a life. I don't have the ear of a powerful politician or world power. I can't end world hunger. I'm not a…

I absoloutely love animals! I thought it was awesome when I saw this web. My Angel DOES deserve her own web!

As long as they're with us.......

My girls have become quite the travellers. My hubby has had to go over an hour drive 5x a week for a month, and we took them with us. The hospital we went to has an amazing park-like setting, so the girls got to have wonderful walks and playing and attempts at squirrel chasing. (Hailey did pull her Houdini routine once. Thank goodness she had to poop or I never would have caught up with her.)

They sleep almost the entire trips. We also take them to visit our friend's places. It's been…

A dog doesn't care if you're rich or poor, big or small, young or old. He doesn't care if you're not smart, not popular, not a good joke-teller, not the best athlete, nor the best-looking person. To your dog, you are the greatest, the smartest, the nicest human being who was ever born. You are his friend and protector.

Visitors!

Oh what a happy day! Actually two! On Thursday my Uncle Eddie came to visit. He's such fun. He says "You're a dog" but I know he doesn't mean it. He came up with a new game to play. It's like peek-a-boo, but funnier. He hides his face, and then when he looks me in the eye, I have to lick the air. I had so much fun playing with him! I hope mommy knows how to play too. But he had to leave this morning... but then....

Cousin Karen came to visit for the afternoon. I like her so much. She…

Decorating with Pets

Decorating when you have pets can provide unique opportunities to express your own personal style and taste. Here are some tips I'd like to share:

  1. Bare floors, without carpet or throw rugs, can give a nice open feeling to a room. It can provide a soothing balance when you have any art objects that reflect your love of animals.

  2. Paw prints and nose smudges on glass doors and windows break up glare and often the light in a room.

  3. Dog crates,…
