IT'S NOT THE DOG, IT'S THE OWNERS!

These beautiful dogs have received such a bad rep and it is such a shame. I have raised and rescued these dogs for aproximately 10 years and i have never owned a more loyal and gentle pet. I have brought rescues home in the trunk of my car because they were so mean and within 3 months time had them sleeping with my cats and pug. I have had policemen stop by my home to visit my dogs and ask how I got them to be so gentle. My answer, "I loved them." These are not mean dogs. It's the owners who think it's a fun sport to fight them and make them mean. I love Pit Bulls and no one will ever convince me they are a "mean" breed.

 i plan to rescue dogs to, a huge chance i might rescue pitbulls. I tell a lot of people about my love for the breed. And a lot agree, and some put me down. "pitbulls are mean" "they will bite your face off". But people, and actions like yours make it so i want to continue my dreams of helping pitties.

I agree 100%! it is never the dog, it is always who is raising him!  The dog is like a kid: if you teach him to kill or hunt, this is how he will be! I am never thinking there is a bad dog, there is a bad owner and this owner should be banned for having a dog! People are mean and bastards, not dogs! I would bless everybody who thinks like I am!

I agree Marina.  I work with a group at the SPCA here that does nothing but work and train the Pitties.  They are wonderful loving dogs, I have come across small dogs that have aggression issues.  If you treat an animal with love and respect you will have a companion that will do anything for you.  My boxer has been called a Pit Bull, unfortunately there are so many breeds that people see as Pitt Bulls, only through education will this fear of them be changed.  Let's hope in the New Year more changes will take place for them and others that are all lumped into one pile as being mean and viscious.

They are not beautiful dogs in any way shape or form and I completely disagree they are not pets unfortunatly they were and still are bred for fighting which means they are hot wired to kill other animals. It is not the dogs fault  but this breed is dangerous and it is my sincere hope that only people that understand and respect the capabillity these dogs have keep them and responsibilly. I do not buy the theory of them being sweet cuddly dogs far from it I have seen first hand just how nasty they are and sorry to say but it had nothing to do with the owner but with the dogs themselves. It has got to be taken into account what they are bred for and remember the dog you have at the end of the leash is the result of generations worth of selective finetuned breeding for this one horrid purpose. I have seen puppies of this breed down to eight weeks having a go at each other and it was not to play but to fight for real had they not been pulled appart they would have killed each other. I have seen a galgo torn up by one of these dogs hence me not buying into the story of oh so sweet and cuddly. It is not without reason that they are at the top of the list of the most dangerous and biting dog in the USA.

i couldnt agree more with you  these beautiful dogs have a reputation they dont deserve theyre a beautiful breed of dog and unfortunately  you here so much in the news about these dogs and then theyre used and abused for fighting too i think its dispicable  the people that do this to these dogs i have a friend in america and she raises and rescues and adopts pitbulls , she is a great voice in her community for the pit bul   PUNISH  THE DEED  NOT THE BREED

Some weeks ago a small yokie was killed by two pittbulls where I live was that the yorkies fault? oh the owner of the yorkie an elderly man was savaged by the two pittbulls. This is not hear say but reality. However what I am trying to say is this know your breed of dog respect them and keep them on leash never underestimate what purpose they have been bred for. The dog breeds we have today are bred  for a purpose this specific purpose is still latent in our fourlegged family members. So please let´s not paint a Disney picture of what we feel about them but rather see them as they are they are not monsters but dogs bred for a purpose and all of them are chosen as the best of breed and are thus bred from. Some ruthless "breeders" could care the less about temperaments or other purpose bred traits. As dog owners it is our duty to know our breed of choice and respect those traits. I for one would not let my greyhounds roam free outside a huge fenced in paddoc their speed is ledgendary their hunting skills are top notch. Their preydrive makes them exploited for racing. They are  bred to hunt something I have seen them do first hand and with deadly result for their chosen prey. Connor killed a hare at top speed. Darcy and Tristan tore a pigeon apart not very nice. In the case of the hare Connor got loose and chased it down in a split second. Darcy and Tristan were both on leash. However when it comes to the subject of pittbulls and other breeds bred for fighting they have those traits just under the surface. They were bred to fight so please owners of these and other breeds realise what traits your chosen breeds have and take your precautions. It is so very sad when other peoples dogs suffer because someone forgot what traits their pittbulls have or what traits their rotties were born with. I genuinly love dogs of all breeds I am not naive though and the experience I have are many and seen through years of experience with diffrent breeds.So before you hang me for not having an ifinnity for pittbulls please  read all of my statement and know I do not blame the dogs for what they are born as but I do blame the breeders because breeding dogs is a huge responsibillity and as I see it they have not taken the traits of the dogs into account they only want to make a profitt of unsuspecting new owners. This makes me furious because this is one of the ways some breeds get a bad reputation through ignorance and wrong handling can we blame the dogs or ignorant owners who may have bought into the the innocent pittbull gossip. I like dogs all dogs but to see the sadness of the elderly man who lost his yorkie is to realise what capabillities the pittbulls have and to know just how dangerous they are. I will not blame them how can I.However the breeders and sellers of these breeds should inform their buyers. "Caveat emptor" buyer beware. Know your breed avoid the deed.

WELL SAID LISBETH  AND YES ITS SO SAD  TO HEAR OF THESE HORRIBLE STORIES IN THE NEWS AND I TOTALLY AGREE WITH YOU WHEN YOU SAY YOU SHOULD BE AWARE OF THE TRAITS IN A DOG LIKE YOU SAY EACH BREED OF DOG IS BRED FOR A SPECIFIC REASON  MORE OR LESS AND   HAND ON HEART  I CANT REALLY DISAGREE WITH WHAT YOU HAVE WROTE , BUT I WOULD JUST LIKE TO SAY  THAT I BELEIVE NO MATTER WHAT BREED OF DOG THEY ALL HAVE AN INSTINCT IN THEM TO TURN TO ATTACK , A HUNTING INSTINCT OR TO BE THE DOMINANT ONE , THEYRE VERY MUCH LIKE US HUMANS WOULDNT YOU AGREE, I JUST DONT AGREE THAT THE MAIN FILL OF THE NEWS IS 99% ABOUT PITBULLS, AND THE OTHER 1% ABOUT ANOTHER BREED , THEY REALLY DO GET SOME BAD PRESS AND  YOU CANT TAR EVERY PITBULL WITH THE SAME BRUSH AT THE END OF THE DAY  I STILL THINK ITS HUMANS THAT HAVE BROUGHT THIS PUBLIC PERSONA ONTO THESE DOGS  JUST LIKE YOU MENTIONED ABOUT IRRESPONSIBLE OWNERS  AND WANTING TO MAKE MONEY OR BIG PROFITS FROM THEM , IF THERE WERE MORE PEOPLE RESPONSIBLE FOR THEIRR PETS  THEN MAYBE ALL THIS AWFUL NEWS WOULDNT BE HAPPENING, I MYSELF  WONT LET KANGA OFF A LEASH IN A PUBLIC PLACE OR AROUND CHILDREN ETC  I DO THIS TO PROTECT HIM AS MUCH AS THEM LIKE YOU ARE VERYRESPONSIBLE WITH YOUR BEAUTIFUL GREYHOUNDS, I SUPPOSE THE DISCUSSION OF PITBULLS IS A NEVER ENDING ONE  ANDPEOPLE WILL SIT ON BOTH SIDES OF THE FENCE WITH THEIR OPINIONS , BUT AGAIN  YOU DO MAKE A VERY GOOD POINT

Thanks Sharon As mentioned before I don´t tar the breed for its traits but rather those who breed from these dogs even those who show extreme agression because sadly they do exist and wreak havoc. Is it their fault no again it is the ones who breed them to be especially agressive. The cases I have mentioned are sadly not media hype but real cases and it does make you aware of the traits in this breed. I am sure your Kanga is a sweetheart and you certainly know what you have at the other end of the leash. I think it is all about being responsibel.As for the victims of these vicious attacks it should never be allowed to happen . Poor dogs both those who attack and those who die because of this extreme agression. I know some people who have pitties but they keep them as you do and that is the only way to keep them in my humbel opinion. To get back to greyhounds I do not let careless potential owners adopt through my organisation simply put I want the greyhound to have a second chance of life not death in the hands of ignorance.I think the same care should go into any breed because the ones to loose out in the end are the dogs they pay the ultimate price every time some human is either ignorant or cruel.Those are the ones that should be targeted as well as the irresponsibel breeders who breed from anything called a pittbull.They do not care about the dogs just the money they can make from them.Sad and agrevating.

I WOULD LIKE TO ASK THIS QUESTION CAN AN ANIMAL [DOG] JUST BORN THIS WAY [AGRESSIVE] NO MATTER HOW GOOD  THE OWNER TREATED IT?  HOW ABOUT HUMANS ARE THEY JUST BORN MEAN OR IS IT A LEARNED BEHAVIOR?EXCLUDING ANY PHYSICAL PROBLEMS. JUST CURIOUS TO HEAR THE OPINIONS.
