From Tilly the Rescue Dog - A Superb Review of Dylan's Tale

Hi everyone,

I'm so pleased for my best friend Dylan, because his wonderful new book, Dylan's Tale, just got a wonderful review from a nice man called mark Henderson at Amazon.com  I hope you'll all enjoy reading what Mr. Henderson says about the book:

5.0 out of 5 stars Another delightful dog rescue story from Harry Porter
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Dylan's Tale (Paperback)
Like its predecessor "Tilly's Tale", Harry Porter's "Dylan's Tale" is a delightful story for children, and not only for children! In this simply-delivered first-person narrative, Dylan the Bedlington Terrier tells us about his life, passing from a puppyhood of abuse and cruelty to his rescue and subsequent happiness with Harry and his family and the other Porter household dogs. The story is charmingly illustrated and it's hard to imagine anyone not enjoying it - and wanting to hug Dylan.

Harry Porter is to be complimented not only for rescuing so many ill-treated dogs and giving them good lives, but also for telling the younger generation how important it is for dogs, like children, to be given unstinting love and care. This book, like "Tilly's Tale", deserves to be widely read, and would make an excellent birthday or Christmas present for a child of late primary school age. I believe this series of stories will contribute to the lessening of animal cruelty and will help young people to appreciate dogs as the wonderful companions they are - when they're treated well.

I said "Not only for children", and I meant it. I bought a copy for a neighbour, 78-year-old widow who loves her Patterdale terrier and finds it impossible to understand how anyone can be cruel to a dog. The book has now been circulated among her friends, all in the same age bracket. "It's a bit weepy to start with," she said, "but the rest of it's lovely." One of her friends said: "See people who treat dogs as that man treated little Dylan? I'd like to treat them the same way so they'd know what it's like". These old ladies are kind-hearted, but they're far from stupid. If Harry Porter can elicit such emotion from them, he can get through to others as well; as many as possible, I hope!

"Dylan's Tale" is highly recommended.

Wasn't that a lovely review? Dylan has asked me to say a really big thank you to Mr. Henderson, so if he is out there and reads this, "Thank you very much for enjoying Dylan's story."

Lots of love

Fingers crossed, lots of prayers and Sassie and Mickie are keeping their paws crossed!!!!  I would just love to know that Sasha can be a happy puppy with no pain.  I know you are giving her all the love and care possible.  You take care my friend, and have a wonderful weekend.

He is rather handsome and sleek isn't he Kathi? We love him to bits. Thanks for the compliment about our dogs. Funny thing is, we never pick them for looks, just on their need at the time we find them, but they all seem to turn out pretty gorgeous.I'm sure you do a marvellous job in your volunteer work, and help loads of dogs in the process. The vet called to say the surgeon is pleased enough with her progress and wants us to keep her restricted for a while longer and take her for more x rays a week next Monday, so we won't know much more until then, I'm afraid. Fingers crossed again, eh?

Dexter is beautiful!!!  You have the most beautiful dogs I have ever seen.  I wish I could afford to rescue like you do but the expense would be prohibitive and I can't in good conscience take in pups that I truly can't afford to give the best to.  So, volunteer work is the next best thing I can do.  I'll be waiting to hear about Sasha, thank you for posting the wonderful pictures, I can live vicariously through them.

Hugs to all Kathi

Glad you like Muttley too. He's just turned one year old and as you can see, has a slightly different head shape to Sheba and Sasha, (don't know what went wrong there...hehe) He's a real 'wally' and loves to sit in flower pots, enjoying the warmth of the sun. Congratulations and good luck on your retirement. Let's hope, as you say, you find more time to do your excellent work supporting our doggie friends. Thanks again for your good wishes for little Sasha. We just hope the news from the surgeon won't be too negative. This pic is of Dexter, our Staffador, (half Staffie, half Labrador). He's a real couch potato and loves nothing more than his bed!

Beautiful Muttley!!!  You are right they are the sweetest most loving dogs I have ever seen.  I hope the news about Sasha is good tomorrow, she is such a sweet little girl and I just hope for her all the very best.  By the way, today was my last day of work.  I am now retired!!! I'm not quite sure how I feel about it but I do know I will have more time with my pups and to do volunteer work with the SPCA and rescues.  That is what I really have wanted to do for a very long time but with holding down a full time job and taking care of things at home my time was limited.  Now I will be able to do more.

Have a wonderful evening and my fingers are crossed and am praying for sweet Sasha.

Hugs to all Kati

Cute pic, Kathi. I'm so pleased you work with Staffies. You'll know just how soft and lovable they really are, when treated right and brought up to be well behaved. The vet phoned today to say she'll be talking to the surgeon tomorrow and hopes to have some news for me by then. I see from various books that the American Staffie is a little different to the home bred variety, a little slimmer and less stocky in build. They are all such beautiful dogs though. I just don't know how anyone can be cruel to them or any breed of canine. Here's a pic of Muttley, in his favorite place, enjoying the sun.

The Staffordshires are beautiful dogs, I love all the terriers, whether they are mixed breed or pedigree.  Sheba is gorgeous, she has the same coloring as my Sassie has.  I work with a group at our SPCA that is called the Pitt Crew, we work strictly with the Pitties and Staffies.  Here is a picture of our Mascot.  I don't know how to make this larger but I am sure you get the idea.  Any word on Sasha?

It really is terrible Kathi, isn't it. Of course, the Pit Bull was banned over here some years ago as you probably know, but we have 3 Staffordshire Bull Terriers, (from who your pit bulls were originally bred), Sheba, Muttley and little Sasha, and a Staffador, Dexter, who are such lovable and loyal, cuddly characters. Sheba was the worst case of abuse we've ever handled and it's a miracle she's as well adjusted as she is nowadays. They are prime examples of my long held belief that there are no bad dogs, just bad owners, who force such wonderful creatures to become vicious and spiteful for their own criminal uses. Like you, I pray for the day when people begin to see the truth of what dog abuse is all about, because it's the people who turn normally happy peaceful dogs into killers who should be PTS, not the dogs. Did you know the Victorians used to call the Staffie the 'Nanny Dog' because they used them to help look after their children? Our Staffies all love kids and Sheba even has something of a fan club amongst the children here in the village where we live. They can't wait to see her, stroke her and love her and she loves to lick them and wrap her paws round their legs, hugging them in her own way.

I hope so to Brian.  I'll tell you it is extremely depressing when you try to find homes or fosters for some of the pups and they end up being PTS anyway.  There is so much abuse of dogs and I don't think most people realize the extent of it.  I don't think there is a day goes by that I don't get posts on a Pittie that has been beaten, starved etc.  I just pray some day it will not be this way.

Hugs Kathi
