On Thursday June 4th. I took Bear to his first visit to the vet to get checked out. He's pretty well mannered for a 120 lbs. of muscle! The check up went well for the most part. The vet said that he was crypt orchid, and that it should be taken care of A.S.A.P., as it could develop into cancer. I planned on getting him neutered anyway, so I inquired as to the cost. Over $650.00! [end first vet visit]

Now, I'm far from a cheapskate when it comes to my furkids, but that was a bit much. I went home and made a few calls and found a really decent clinic that would do it for half that! WOW! That was much more reasonable. That included a micro-chip and 3 month supply of flea treatment! I made the appointment for the following week and waited.

He came through the surgery with flying colors! The vet came out to talk to me after the surgery and told me that it was a long surgery because they had trouble finding the crypto orchid testicle. He said they traced the line that it was supposed to be attached to all the way to the kidneys, but found nothing but a knot tied in the end of the line! It seems that the previous owner had the testicle removed but left the external one attached! Poor bear went through a lot for nothing; but who knew?

The two weeks following the surgery were kinda rough around the house because he was wearing an "E" collar, and kept the house in total chaos. We couldn't let him outside by himself and it was driving him nuts! (no pun intended) He seemed to be healing well and pretty much left the surgery site alone. Anyway, I took him back to get the stitches out after 2 weeks and the doctor said he looked great and had even lost a little weight. That was good!

Now he's all healed up and starting to mellow a bit. We're gonna be starting obedience school at the end of July. I trained my other dogs myself, but I raised them from puppies and it was easy. This guy is a little bit bigger and older and I need a little guidance. It should be fun, and I'm looking forward to it!

More to come later...

Last night was the first class and he did pretty good. I've been working with him a lot myself, and the surgery calmed him down a lot too. It's a small class, only one other dog and it's a female pit bull. The instructor seems very knowledgeable and she got Bear to do things almost immediately! Just like Cesar!! lol

Glad to hear he did so well! And by the way I put Rascal in 2 obedience classes and he graduated both of them at the top of his class and he loved every minute of it and so did I!!! You will love it and so will Bear!
