Tips when adopting another dog into your family...

Before you adopt another dog be sure the dog you already have is well-trained. Especially make sure your existing dog knows and obeys at least the basic commands such as Come,Sit,Stay,and is fully potty-trained. Usually the newcomer will take the lead from the resident petkid . If the resident dog isn't well trained ,then you most likely will end up with 2 unruly dogs on your hands!
*Buy all NEW supplies for the second dog such as bedding, feeding dish,toys,collars etc. so that your other dog doesn't feel threatened or that the new dog is invading his territory.
*Even if they seem to be getting along fine, still give them time away from each other and make sure you spend time with each dog separately. This has a 2 part benefit as it teaches the other dog to be comfortable by himself AND also makes each dog feel special!
* Do NOT leave them alone together until you are SURE they have accepted each other.
A young puppy can overwhelm an older dog or a dog that is used to being an "only petkid".
Make sure you supervise them to help the puppy learn how to properly interact with your other dog.
