These events took place over the course of one weekend when Geordie had just turned four months old.  This was before  I had a camera, and it took me pages and pages to scribble out all of the misery my puppy put me through in those two days!  (Still think you want a feisty puppy?!)…

In the past week, the subject of brushing your dogs teeth has come up several times among friends.  These days, I tell myself that the reason I do it is for my dog’s health.  Thinking about it,  however, started to bring up long-buried memories of why I really brush Bitey’s teeth…

Prior to Geordie, my family had a dog, and in all his years we never brushed…

Before the surprise arrival of Geordie, I had been doing a lot of volunteer work for the Armed Forces.  I did everything from knit camo scarves and black wool socks that went to Afghanistan to helping to put together Back Packs for Iraq and even made special patriotic quilts that were given to injured soldiers…

Since my last story was a sad one, I wanted to tell something funny here today.  Now, unfortunately, I am not allowed to type the actual, mildly naughty word I want, so I will use the fun, alternative word, "kerfuffle".  (What I really want to say rhymes with "darts")

One time when Geordie and I were with my folks, my Dad came over and tapped me on the arm and asked, "Do you know what those are?" pointing to some stuffing from one of Geordie's toys that had…

If you are a terrier-lover, then you would generally say that your dog has a “strong prey drive”.  If you are frustrated by terriers, you would label them as having “no self-restraint”.  Geordie typically demonstrated both in great abundance in school.  As others would be trying to walk past doing their exercises, he would bark at the top of his shrill voice and try to give chase.  While most were amused by his antics, his barking and tendency to try to get in another dog’s face didn’t go…

I had a rocky beginning with Puppy Geordie.  There was plenty of biting and tantrums but not as much learning as I had hoped. The local obedience school accepted puppies as young as six months old, but I sneaked and got him in at five.  I  had never taken a dog to school before, and I naively thought the classes themselves would help with my problems.  Ha! Taking a troublesome terrierist to obedience classes, however, will provide  you with many opportunities to be embarrassed by your dog…

Well, Geordie did it again today, with another of his "chocolate creations".  Instead of saying:   三  (3) like he usually does, today he spelled out the word for "fire" (火).  So far, we have "old" and "fire". Either that, or it was a bass…

This morning, the neighbors must have thought me a bit “touched” as I stood in the front yard, laughing.  For whatever reason, Geordie managed to poo the Chinese word for “old” (lao) in the snow.  Not “fortune”.  Not “happiness”.  Old.  Happy Year of the Horse to us, eh?

I wonder, though, do I have a little Charlotte on my hands?  Perhaps tomorrow he will tell me I am “some…

Usually when puppy and I return to the house, he runs right up to the door so that he can get in first. For some reason yesterday, he hung back a little and watched with great interest as I knocked the snow from my boots before going up to the door. After he had seen what I did, he walked back on to the sidewalk, shook his fur to throw the snow off,…

Yesterday my little monster and I went outside to enjoy the many inches of snow we got overnight.  We played for the longest time with him bounding over the drifts like a short-legged gazelle or tunneling like the terrier he is.

I started keeping a diary for my pup years ago, and that is what I am transferring here  now.   It started as a way to relive some cute moments from my boy’s puppyhood, but as time went by, I realized what a potentially valuable tool it might be.  I keep a copy of the diary/blog address with my dog’s papers, and if he ever has to live with another family, they will have an idea of what sort of a pup he is.  Geordie is a peculiar dog with a different way of communicating than other dogs I…

Before we could get started on our adventure today, w e had to make a stop at the bank.  At the drive through, the teller sent FOUR biscuits to Geordie through the tube.  She said that she thought he looked cute with the wind blowing through his fur as he sat on the seat beside me.  (I had the vent fan on.)
