Yesterday, I took Geordie for a walk around the neighborhood. A couple of blocks away, we ran into one of his canine friends sunning herself on the front lawn. Geordie has the biggest crush on this dog, and he was excited to see her. As he does with all his close friends, Geordie called out to greet her, “Boo! Hoo! Hoo!”.
From the house next door came a gruff shout to “Shut up!” Really? My puppy makes a happy greeting noise, and you feel that you have to yell at him? In this neighborhood, Geordie and I often have to listen to colicky babies crying, screeching, screaming toddlers, teens with loud radios…but do we yell at them to shut up? No, we say, “Isn’t it nice to hear the children play?”
Geordie is my child. Isn’t it nice to hear him play?
