It was the Summer of 2009 and Bud and I were sailing along just fine, just the two of us. I had been laid off and at the age of 58 and was unable to find a job. He worked full-time and after months…Continue

I don't know what happened. One day I had a home and I was a happy pup with a love-for-life spirit, and then I just didn't. I was wandering the streets, getting my dinner from garbage cans, when I…Continue

All six of my dogs are strays. This is Omni my latest. I found him by the side of the road, skinny and covered with fleas. I drove with him to the shelter and asked if anybody was looking for him. I knew i shouldn't take another dog as I already had five. I told the people at the shelter I did not want him put to sleep and if nobody adopted him to call me. They said in three days he would be up for adoption if no owner claimed him. I kissed him on the head and said goodbye. I thought about him constantly and was worried so before the third day was up I called and said I would take him. He is quite a handful but is coming along nicely and I do not regret for a second that he is in my life. He is extremely active and playful and likes to cuddle too. It is so satisfying to see him playing and healthy after being discarded and starving by the side of the road. He weighed 20 pounds when I found him in July and now weighs 48 pounds.
I wasn’t looking for a puppy when I came across LeeRoy on the humane society’s facebook page, his picture simply something that popped up on my newsfeed one night. I don’t know what it was that really drew me too him. I guess really it was his floppy ears, the way his head looked a little too big for his scrappy little legs.
On the description it had said that he’d been found by a good Samaritan on the highway just in between my boyfriend’s hometown and my own. He had a sister with him, one that looked more like the terrier than himself though she had a distinguishable face. Tan and white in comparison to Lee’s own black and tan.
I scrapped up what little money I could get together at such a short notice, scared that by the time I got the 80 dollar adaptation fee that he would already be gone. I was the first and seemingly only person to question about him. I met him that first time a week later…he curled up in my arms, gave me a single lick before snuggling into my chest and falling asleep. That was it for me…I was hooked. I paid the fee and awaited the day I could take him home.
They fix them pretty young now and that was the rule…he had to be fixed before he could come home with me. Something I was more than happy to wait on. His first shots went off great…his second…well …not so much.
I was just about to go and pick him up when I got a call saying he had to be taken to the vet for a bad reaction to one of the shots and he had tested positive for Pravo(I’m not quite sure how to spell this)! I was horrified. They offered to return my money or allow me to pick out another dog from their selection. I wouldn’t do it. I wanted him. I knew he’d make it through. What little pup could live on the highway for a week in heavy traffic and not be a tough little man?
His foster mom did everything she could for him…I have never been more grateful for her caring heart. She still plays Grandma and will always be in his life now. Her patient and quick thinking helped keep him and alive and helped him pull through!
He’s a bit of a brat at times, tearing into things he shouldn’t or running about with his cat brother causing all kinds of messes, but he’s perfect to me. He has kind intelligent eyes and when you talk to him, he turns his head like you’re the most interesting thing in the room and he can’t simple get enough of you. He has issues with being left alone, scared that he will be abandoned once again I suppose even though I’ve promised him and told him time and time again I would never do that as I held him close.
He’s just like a little baby…he cries when he’s scared and runs to hide in my arms because I’m Mom and it’s my job to make everything in the world okay for him.
I’ve never been prouder to have that job….
Our sweet bella we got from a farm early this year. Her owner just up and left her. She would run around the farm looking for food until we took her home. She's the best dog anyone could ever ask for and we love her to death. I just did a post for her on my blog today. http://quietgirldreaming.blogspot.com/
My Queenie was an abandoned kitten. She was a runt of the litter...and was sick when I found her. She kept following me one morning when I went to go to my car to get to work. I kept putting her back into the back yard, but she walked along the breezeway behind me. I feared that she would get hit, since her eyes were swollen almost shut from a severe upper respiratory infection. I scooped her up, and took her upstairs to our apartment. I told my fiancee "Look, we have a new family member"! Now he was not a cat lover, but after we took her in...he fell in love with her. She was such a wonderful addition to our family, and had two litters. One had 3 males which we adopted out, and the 2nd had one boy and two girls. We adopted two out, and kept one girl...BooBoo. Queenie and BooBoo were such a pair...and my fiancee loved them both. Funny how cats have loving effects on people!
