Compassion!!
I lean towards compassion but without common sense it seems like the blind leading the blind. It is a bit like night without day and vise/versa. I think those that abuse lack everything. They seem to be less than educated in morals and certainly lack feelings towards others than themselves. People like that will never know the love of another person much less an animal. Dogs and other animals can sense that about people and they tend to avoid them. I would say that it is the wise thing to do some people realy don´t deserve the attention they seek. The question is can we learn anything from their lack of compassion. I think we can in the sense that we are very priveledged as we are sorounded by love and compassion from friends and family and our own family members show us nothing but love and compassion regardless of what we look like and how we feel. They are there for us the people who lack compassion will never have that. They may have fear from their animals but they will never be loved as we are. They will never understand what it is to love and be loved. If they get hurt they might have compassion from someone will they learn from it that is the real question. I think some might others won´t they will only want to exploit others who show compassion but they will never have the feeling of being needed and wanted. Will they ever make a diffrence in someones life it is doubtful. As for common sense they will lack that too. Poor things they will never get it. They will be poor all their life where as we are enriched every day because of these genuine qualities.

I think both, because its stupid to abuse(common sense) and an abuser has no compassion what-so-ever.

But they'd need Compassion more.

Brianna, you are a very wise young lady!!
To me its Compassion as that comes with experiencing suffering, common sense well sometimes that doesn;t even come with age. it should be taught as we grow up, but often is just not even on a adults radar..So some people just don;t get it, but one day they will as suffering hits us all in way or another! Its so sad the innocent suffer. If i see someone abusing an animal, i will be right in your face and demand justice.. we all need to step up in that aspect!
I think most of us do step up when it is needed. No one on this forum can see animals suffer and then turn away we do what we can to prevent suffering when ever we find it. As for common sense you are right it has to come from deeply inside of us and it has to be tought just like ethics and moral. We need that as much as compassion and love if these things are not tought early on what kind of an individual are we looking at as the end result? None us can walk away without trying to help the innocent. I think we have been blessed with the abillity to feel and show compassion as well as common sense we are priveledged because we have learnt this from early childhood. It will help us to live more fulfilled lives where making a diffrence becomes as natural as breathing for us what an enrichment that.it is what we live by and the legacy we leave behind and personally I think it is the best legacy we can hope to leave behind for others to pick up where we eventually leave of.
I agree Lisbeth.. its important to think of all living creatures.. and show compassion everyday. I weed whack my elderly neighbors alley and pick up her garbage that gets spread through out the summer.. she was so surprised. I said if i am covered in mud all ready whats a little more to help an neighbor in need.. i believe we have lost the ability to be good neighbors as well.. I literally preach to the young kids above me now, "who do you think will save you or your dog, when the house is on fire" its your neighbor, so be respectful and shovel the walk and smile.. it won;t kill ya!! to me that is common sense, but they were a little ticked off, but i don;t care. I hope that when they buy there first house that they remember that, as having a bad neighbor can be a nightmare.. have a great sunday off to do yard work.. lol
i beleive its the compassion that starts us off,and common sense follows. and wanda its wonderful that you are so kind to your neighbor. it comes back to you through your young friends and your children its something that everyone should do. i know lisbeth 's compassion comes out with her love of greyhounds, its the same as helping your elderly neighbor you 2 are very compassionate people. as soon as i download a photo of a remarkable man i will follow up on this.
this is a picture of my uncle frank.he told me when i was about 8 to 10 years of age to never turn your back on a kid. he was my moms brother . he was murdered in a robbery attempt on him in 1970.the saying stuck with me through the years and i hope i did him proud. so you see wanda what you told those kids  hopefully it sticks it did with me. i also neglected to say [ senior moment] kathi i know is very compassionate,as are others on this site.
i also beleive you can't be compassionate to one species and not the other and call yourself compassionate. if you hurt the 4 legged kind you will hurt the 2 legged kind.im sorry for preaching i don't mean to preach but its how i feel.
Here here, i just did the kids stairs to there home, cleaned it, hosed it down and did the yard work, out front.. i believe in old saying treat those, be it there heart, emotions, property, the way you would like to be treated.. It saddens me that some of the kids, really live in a reality all there own, and some times, as in reality now the computer takes up too much time, and not the basics for proper development, at the core most of these kids are great, and just need a reminder.. u be respectful to others and consider "their feelings" and be a good neighbor.. It doesn;'t mean that u have to be over visiting, but if you know who belongs in your neighborhood, we can whatch out for each other.. Don, my father was side swipped my fathers car, up in whitecourt, it was 1966 oct, he swerved to miss a drunk driver and went into the ditch, he went to check his uhaul trailer   as he was moving, i was in the car and he wanted to take me with him i was 16months old, a friend said no, i was sleeping so she held me and as my dad opened the u-haul, it was 9pm dark, another drunk driver, swerved lost control and hit my dad, then violently and tore his leg off, he passed, the guy kept driving, into whitecourt to the Bar, with DNA on the bumper (yes i know no dna then, but you get my meaning).. But i to have felt his love with me and i listen to him and no i will see him again, i just refuse to take anything less, i will always be compassionate, emotional with commen sense sprinkles lol I must find a picture of him for you.. There lives were so simple, it was a different Reality!
