Unfortunately, tis the season for those pesky allergies. Kyra has horrible seasonal and food allergies. I need to be so careful and try to prevent outbreaks. Does anyone else have problems with any types of allergies? And if so, what have you found that helps and relieve some of these problems?

You can use Benadryl, I use them for bee stings and r what I carry in my doggie vet case, especially camping, she's a big dog, so I would try 1 pill, or talk to a vet.. Or google Benadryl, dog, allergy ect. I will see. LELO is tiny under 6#, she gets a quarter. My neighbour in the mountains, her new puppy, stuck his face in a wasp nest, poor thing, treatment is the same get the stinger out, cool compresses, Benadryl 1 tab, he was very large dog . Swelling went down, poor guy looked deformed. I know some groups may have suggestions.. I also use I iherb.com they have legit
natural animal vitamins, joint treatments.. Check there too! I hope you find something, if so check out Mandy's group on pet care! WW
Here's just one link I found for you .

Good luck WandaP=WW and LELO!
What's her food?
She is on a prescribed diet by our vet, Wysong Senior blend. It's the best thing next to raw food because it's cold cooked so none of the nutrients are cooked out. Her allergies are under control now but it took 8 years to figure it out! Always looking for other ideas just in case. I will definetly check out iherb.com thanks a bunch!

A friend told me about a new medication called Apoquil.  When I asked the vet about trying some for Geordie's allergies, she said that the medication is difficult to get because it is in such demand.  It might be something to keep in mind when you talk to your vet, though.  You may get lucky and be able to buy some.

If the allergies get bad enough to have to go to the vet, look into this program that saves you money on vet visits, medications, and even food.  Keep this in mind this summer

Thank you everyone!

Food wise I would go corn free I have done that for my greyhound puppy as he reacts badly to other forms of kibbel with corn in it as for other allergies Consult your vet don´t try any home made concoctions and above all else do not self medicate especially not human medicins as they can cause kidney failure(renal collapse) it is vital to remember that even though there are some similarities between all Groups of mamals there are also some very distinct diffrences that should be taken into account.

Thank you for the info Lisbeth. I work in a compounding pharmacy that makes medicine for animals and there is a vet always there so I do get great information from him and she gets extra special care when it comes to what she is medicated with and what foods she is taking as she technically has 2 vets.

During this past summer one of my yorkies had terrible allergies, so I took her to the vet and she recommended benadryl! I was curious about this, so I had my hubby search online to see if anyone else used benadryl for dogs and it appeared to be a common thing. So, he was able to find a chart which gives the appropriate amount of liquid (my little girl is between 5 - and 10 pounds so I give her 5 mg max, usually 3 mg just to be extra safe). and this does the trick. If anyone wants to chart you can find it here http://www.anydogrescue.org/benadryl-for-dogs/ (I printed it out and keep it next to my benadryl just in case she or any of my other dogs need it so I know the amount needed right away).
