You are right Angel. There is no such thing as a vicious dog unless you raise them that way.

Sarah you are right. There is no such thing as a vicious dog depending upon how you raise them. They have an instinct to protect them selves.

i believe there is no such thing as a vicious dogs. they are all good by nature, it's just that they need to protect themselves. If you are able to treat them well enough and the sincerity is there, they can be much gentler than you can imagine. Give it a try and shower them with all the love and they will do it in return too ^^

the ban in the UK so surprises me for more than one reason. back in the days of the plagues, pit bulls were put into pits with infected rats and the dogs killed the rats therefore, lessening the outbreaks of the plagues.  hence the name pit bull.

now to modern day.  pit bulls and staffordshire terriers were used in world war 2 and in the US were known as the nanny dog.  you would see them on tv shows such as spanky and our gang.  they were the symbol for buster brown shoes.  if i am correct isn't that a pit bull on the target symbol?  although they may call it another dog it's a pit.

i work in an animal shelter and we always have pits and am staffs.  they are my favorite dogs.  but unfortunately, they always come to us with issues.  either they have been used as fighting dogs or bait dogs or overbreed, or beaten, usually never spayed or neutered.  i have seen the worst of them and the best of them.

you are all right,  it is how the dog is brought up and how the owner treats the dog that determines how the dog will react in any given situation.  having said that, there are situations where there are some that are just not good dogs.  the wiring in their brains are just not right from birth.  that is usually from over breeding.  that can happen with any breed. those dogs need to be put down.

if laws are put into place and are followed up by competant aco's there should not be any problems with pit bulls or am staffs.  then it is up to the owner to follow to the letter these laws.  if not, the dog should be taken away from the owner before the situation gets out of hand.

i also recommend that all bully breeds be spay/nuetered.  we have way too many back yard breeders and way too many dogs.  i'm sure this is the case in the uk as well.  once the problem of getting the numbers under control is accompolished and all animals are fixed.  owners are doing their job as responsible owners you will see much less negative publicity on these dogs.

but in answer to the question?  absolutely NOT ban staffies

Do not punish the breed because of the stupid humans that have expoited & abused this beautiful loving breed!
