Exactly four years to the day after Knut made his public debut, the Nuremburg Zoo introduced polar bear twins Gregor and Aleut to the world. Watching the four-month old cubs frolic in the sunshine under the watchful eye of their mother Vera has warmed the hearts of visitors.

Unlike Knut, Gregor and Aleut have had a happier start to life with a mother who cares for them. Vera is experienced, too, although her first go at motherhood wasn't very successful. Three years ago she gave birth to Flocke. After initially caring for her, Vera began displaying hurtful behavior toward her cub and Flocke was removed and raised by hand. Flocke now resides in Marineland in the south of France with a male polar bear named Rasputin.
