Animals just like humans experience pain, grief, and joy. I remember grandma’s german shepherd grieving after she died. So much so that he died on the very next day after she passed away. He will walk in circles all day & howled. He couldn’t handle it for more than one day…Poor thing, dogs are so faithful. We are not sure if dogs experience emotions in the same we experience them. Definitely they don’t think or feel in the same way we do. Humans have additional brain features such as pre-frontal lobes and a vast network of ganglia dedicated to thinking and making connections between stimuli which dogs lack, or do not have in such a highly developed form. Some dogs are more sensitive than others obviously & there are tongs of stories I have heard about dogs & how they respond to negative or positive events.

Your story made me cry. How sweet...Jazzi is my hero, she is your mom's best nurse ha ha:-) I love your story. THis is the kind of things I'll like to hear in the news besides people killing each other. Thanks for sharing! A kiss & a hug for Jazzi.

Definitely, I'm sure she thought Tisha was a mother:-) Klausie is such a sweet little dog...

Okay, start over...LOL

This is so true. Over the years my pet babies have shown incredible emotions, loving and caring ways, and sensitivity - - towards everything really, but especially towards their humans and pet siblings.

Example: My Mother is quite elderly and not in the best of health. All of us kids (old now, LOL) take turns staying with her, over night. Sunday is mine and Jazzi girl's night. It's a grand day for Jazzi and Mother. I don't know who looks forward to it more, the Mom or the doggie, LOL.

Jazzi gets so excited the time gets close for us to pack and make our drive out to Mom's house. She even tells me the exit to take off the Interstate. She sits up, barks, and paws at the window. And God forbid I go a different way. She cries and whines the whole time, me reassuring her over and over, we're going to Grandma's house, I promise.

Jasmine watches every move Mother makes. I'm not kidding. The dog is 100% attentive and totally focused on Mother the entire evening. She sits next to Mom in the recliner, and throws her body backwards in a back-bend position, very gently, and kisses Grandma. It's too sweet. If Mother cries, up in the chair Jazzi goes to console her. If Mother sneezes, coughs, or whatever, Jazzi is right by her side. If she goes to the bathroom and I'm in another room, like the kitchen or something, Jasmine flies into the room barking, to let me know that Mother is in the bathroom - - which can get dangerous when she's by herself.

If Mother walks down the hall with her walker, Jazzi runs from left to right, and right to left, as if she's making sure Mother doesn't fall. At night, Jasmine goes to the side of Mother's bed, puts her little paws on the side, and they have their Sunday night ritual of saying nite nite.

Then, the entire night, sweet little doggie sleeps on the baby monitor. If Mother dares to breath a little funny or differently, Jazzi is straight up, wide awake, and alarms me. It is amazing. They adore each other, and it's the sweetest thing you've just about ever seen.

Best,
Bragger

I can't believe what just happened, LOL, I was editing a statement, and deleted my whole post! I'll try to write it again.

I believe this to be true too. I remember my Klausie was a depressed sad n pathetic pup after we lost Tisha. I had to go out and get him a playmate because I would come from work and his head and paws would be hanging off the couch. He was definitely a depressed mess LOl after losing his Tisha I think he thought of her as a mom as she was older when i got Klausie at 8 wks old.
