Making an interesting, fun rat cage

of course there are many ways to make your raties cage interesting and fun but i would like to share some ideas:

hammicks: you can buy the expensive ones in the pet stores or you can always make some good inexpensive ones. a trip to the dollar storeand you can bet you'll find TONS of stuff to use for your ratties. I like to use dish rags and then use metal shower hooks to hook the rag from the top of your cage. Now you have a good inexpensive hammick and your rats dont even no the difference!

Toys: i've made some fun toys from stuff that i've found at the dollar store, things like plastic shower certain hangers, baskets, and various other odds and ends can all be used to make toys and hides. with the plastic shower hangers you can connect them to the the cage wires and to each other for a fun climbing challenge. you can add to this by putting a yogie or other treat at the very top and see who can get it first! Baskets make awesome hide-a-ways and you can hang them from the top of the cage with those shower hangers too! Dont forget the fun they can have with with clean paper towel rolls and kleenex boxes, even with some of the paper still left (they can use that for their nests).

Holiday Themed Toys: these easy to make and rats LOVE them! what i do is make a trip to the dollar store and find some little holiday themed container- example: for easter i use plastic easter eggs- and fill them with rice or maybe a little bell. My rats love taking them up to the very top level and throwing them down trying to get the rice out, lol. You could do the same thing with paper cups, just tap 2 together and watch the fun begin!

yay! more ratty knowledge goodness! I am hoping to write an article on homemade toys or stuff that can be found around the house. While I have heard of your ideas before, I was still wondering if I may use this as reference? The article probably wont be on my petbrags account as I have created a new website that is a lot easier to navigate
