From unwanted nervous ex-racing greyhound to confident winning showdog!

Many of you know I love greyhounds and dislike raceing. I have written about my ex-racers before today. However the latest news is remarkabel. My greyhound Collins story is a rather common one for a racing greyhound. He was bumped and mashed into the rails during a race and yes he lost it and was beaten for his troubels the result was rather obvious Collin was soo traumatised by this deed that he made a complete shambles of the next race he was entered in at the track in Oxford this saw him disqualified and put up as "free to good home" his track times were out of this world and for this reason he was snatched up by a racedog owner here in Denmark. The new owner wanted him for racing. It turnd out that he was too traumatised to work with in the mean time I sadly lost my greyhound Connor on June the fifth 2011. Around the twentyfifth of June I was offered Collin also known as Geneva Noisy. I said yes to him and went to Nyborg on the fourth of July to pick up my new greyhound he was two and a half years old so very young and fearful of men and boys I worked with him slowly letting him get used to men and boys at his own pace letting him make up his mind and not fearing them. Finally Collin had gained so much confidence that I thought why not let him try going to a show and see if this could boost his confidence. I had him registred in the Danish Kennel Club. I entered him in his first show. He turned out to be a natural in the showring and yes this helped him. He faced his fearsand to see him embrace this new activity with courage and happiness is very touching. He and I have been to quite a few shows since that first one and then he was also approved for breeding something that was obligatory back then if I wanted to continue showing him. Then this last Saturday 22 November he won his class and came away with a first place and an exelent I am very proud of my lad once unwanted and up for grabs now a well known and successful showdog. This just goes to prove that with patience and love a once traumatised ex-racing greyhound can enjoy a life after racing and become happy and realy begin to enjoy their new life. Collin has done it .Just wanted to share this with you to let you know there is always hope.Even the most traumatised greyhounds can live a good life when the right home has been found and they are given a second chance.

How wonderful Lisbeth.  Collin is truly blessed to have you.  I hope you and the other lads are doing well.  Miss talking to you.  Much love and big hugs to the Lads and you.

Kathi Mickie and Sassie

I miss talking to you too Kathi. The three others are doing very well as you know I show Collin and Ricko too next year Chris will also be shown..Tristan is 11 years old and is just enjoying life as is.How is Mickie and Sassie doing and how are you doing a question do you have skype?.

Just so happy you have him, now. Great story, at least after the racing nightmares. I absolutely detest "dog racing".

So do I.Greyhounds are the love of my life another greyhound has very recently joined my wee family after I sadly lost my oldest greyhound Tristan on the 1 of December 2014. I heard about this one greyhound needing a home so I enquired about him and bought him from his former owner/trainer and brought him home on the 17 of December So he hasen´t been here a month yet but it is as if he has always been here. his racing name was Peagreen Hudson Hawk.I have named him Mike. Here is a picture of him the only one I have got I dislike the fact that he is wearing a muzzle in this picture but its the only picture I have of him.

He is gorgeous! I love the intelligence and gentleness in his eyes. Would love to see a pic without the muzzle. =) Always great to hear about folks like you, rescuing Angels. Very sorry to hear about Tristan.

Thanks I hate the muzzle but as mentioned before this is the only picture I have of him so I will just have to get a better one when I have a new digital camera my old one broke down and can´t be repaired.

Just wanted you to know I was looking forward to seeing him, without it. =)

Racing greyhounds wear muzzels during the races to prevent them from biting each other at the pick up. It is also a well know phenomenon that when kennled they are muzzled most of the time execpt when eating again to prevent them from biting each other they wear these confounded muzzles for more than 23 hours pr day a sad sight sometimes they wear anti bark muzzles again something to prevent them from makeing any sounds it is a sad sight to see these gentle sighthounds muzzled and kept in cramped cages. The only time I use a muzzle is when introducing new greyhounds to each other the first few times of leash in huge fenced in paddoc they do have their racing muzzles on to prevent them from biting each other as soon as they have accepted each other the muzzles are off for good. Just to clarify that none of my greyhounds need muzzles when out and about. This morning they were chasing each other and having fun no need for muzzles they are so gentle they don´t bite each other at all not even the smallest nip. Very proud of my four gentle lads

Mike without his muzzle.
