Birthday surprice for my dogs

I was contacted about visiting an elderly person with my therapy dog, Malachi. The lady’s niece, Claudette, wanted us to be a special ‘birthday surprise’ for her aunt’s 93rd birthday. Claudette flew from her home in Texas to Boulder, Colorado, and we met in the parking lot to finalize the details on how we were going to pull off our surprise visit.

Malachi and I followed Claudette into the apartment. Her Aunt Mary’s vision and hearing are impaired and she didn’t notice our presence. Claudette positioned herself next to her aunt’s chair and announced that her surprise was here. We approached Aunt Mary, and when she realized what she was seeing, she clapped her hands together in applause, exclaiming “OH! OH!” (Claudette had tears in her eyes from watching her beloved aunt’s reaction to Malachi.)

Aunt Mary spent time thoroughly examining Malachi with her hands, down the length of his back all the way to the tip of his tail, down the slope of his shoulder and down the leg, feeling every inch. Aunt Mary loved dogs and had raised Weimaraners.We had such a wonderful visit that I have “adopted” Aunt Mary, and Claudette and I have become friends. In fact, Claudette went home and adopted a dog of her own and is hoping to do be a therapy team soon.
