Bandit and his ABC News Story

Many of you know that Bandit came down with a very serious onslaught of illnesses in mid August. When I googled all that was wrong, and talked to his vet, his survival consesus was 5%. Luckily, he's a miracle dog, and is well on the road to recovery. I've written a couple of updates on my page, but wanted to share his story. A FB friend, who we've never met, contacted ABC news to request they do a story to help Bandit with his medical expenses. It was aired on 10/8/10, and the link is attached. As soon as Bandit was able, and with his vet's OK, he returned to his volunteering with veterans on a limited basis. It did him a world of good, because he was focusing on his work, and friends as a VA Hospital Volunteer with veterans. He wasn't focusing on being sick. He's got a full schedule of activities, events, and continued volunteering at the hospital. Last week he attended a "Make a Wish" fundraiser sponsored by Cold Stone Ice Creameries, and also one by H.E.A.L. (Help Every Animal League) which does tremendous things for our local animal shelter. He visits the children at the library, to help them read every 3rd Saturday. Nothing he had was contagious, so he was safe to mingle, once he felt up to it. He's overcome an abusive past, and is not only a certifed Therapy Dog, but my husband's, a veteran, service dog for PTSD and Mobility. He is also part of the treatment plan of several patients at the VA hospital as a psychiatric medical assistance, helping with anxiety, panic attacks, and depression. His spirit to survive his illness and so many prayers, helped him through his ordeal, and we are so proud to have him in our family. Enjoy the video. A Bandit Update - He continues his full recovery and has a check up on Monday. We're hopeful, but confident that his tests will come back with great numbers. Please just keep him in your prayers. Although the television coverage was great, sorry to say no donations were generated. But that's ok - tough times for all, and we'll manage, with payments, and just so thankful that Bandit is still here with us. Glad to share Bandit's story. He's just so cool, and we call him Mr. Mellow, because despite his past misfortunes, he's so calm, and he has the ability to share that with others. It's a great thing to see! Thanks for the good wishes. With another checkup on Friday, we're hoping for a complete clean bill of health. Will keep you posted. Even if there is some lingering liver complications, our vet says they're treatable, and he's not too concerned. His smile was from ear to ear at our last checkup, when he had the good news for us about Bandit's progress! Bandit sends hugs.....
