Quick Question
Remember, Critter Camp is the only licensed sanctuary of its kind, anywhere! Since we serve everyone, we rely on the support of everyone who cares about unwanted pets; especially the forgotten "throwaway" and more unusual ones that we care for here. We also enjoy sharing the weekly happenings here with all of our supporters too!
Name the New Ratty Rats! Help us name the new Ratty Rats! Critter Camp accepted 8 rats, 2 boys and 6 girls from DuPage County Animal Control and 3 from an owner who had rescued them from a bad situation this week and they need names!!E-mail us with your suggestions.See them all on our What's New Page!Speaking of names...We finally chose a name for the new bunny, and it's.....Slick! His fur is so shiny and black like an oil slick, and since he was found near a gas station it seemed to fit him the best. (Plus it's short! With 240+ critters here we need all the help we can get remembering everyone's name!) Check out his BunSpace profile too!

Critter Camp receives no public or government funding-
We rely on the kindness of fellow animal lovers to feed and care for all 236 rescued critters here!
No donation is too small (or large :)
At a certain point re-homing pets, particularly the unusual and exotic ones, at all costs often serves only to make the people involved feel better about themselves, irregardless of the stability and continuity of care the elderly, abused or ill animal actually needs. Euthanizing such animals brings the rescuer down to the universally despised level of "puppy-mills" in that if an animal is no longer useful to humans it must be killed. This is incredibly heartbreaking. Again, people bred every one of these pet animals for human enjoyment and/or profit, therefore we as humans have an obligation to provide the best of care for these animals for their entire lives, whether or not they are "pet quality."

Ask Critter Camp!!
My kids want a lizard for a pet, but we don't know what kind to get. They want something "cool" like an iguana, but I have heard they are difficult to care for. What do you suggest? T.S. in IllinoisCritter Camp Answers:Good question T.S. ! Thanks for researching your new pet before you acquire it!After caring for many different types of lizards we agree that iguanas are difficult to care for. They often bond with one person, becoming jealous of that person's mate, even attacking! They also grow to be 5-6 feet in length and really need a full room to be housed appropriately. Their bite can be very nasty and they whip with their tails when they are upset. They also live up to 15 years- a very long term committment. We suggest that you consider getting a bearded dragon for a lizard pet because they are very gentle, sturdy, fairly easy to care for and they truly enjoy being handled. We always recommend that people visit someone who has the type of pet they are considering before they get it so they know what to expect. Please see our Bearded Dragon Care Page on our website for more in-depth information on caring for "beardies."
Visit Critter Camp's Information Table and meet a few of our rescued critters at : The The Stephenson County Convention and Visitor's Center on Friday August 8 from 2-6pm
