A Pug is a toy dog breed, first recognized by the AKC in 1885. The pug has a wrinkly face and medium-small body. The pug has a life span of 10 - 15 years. Their coats can come in many varieties including apricot, fawn, silver or black. Pugs are sociable dogs, friendly and seem to have a special affinity with children. A Pug's character is unique in that he is a clown at heart with a terrific sense of humor, however carries himself with great dignity.
The Pug is one of the oldest breeds of dog dating back since before 400 BC.

The Pug was pet of the Buddhist monasteries in Tibet.

Josephine, wife of Napoleon, used her Pug "Fortune" to carry secret messages under his collar to her husband while she was imprisoned at Les Carmes.

The name "Pug" probably comes from the dog's facial expression, similar to the marmoset monkeys that were popular pets of the early 1700's and known as Pugs.
