“Getting a dog is like getting married."

“Getting a dog is like getting married. It teaches you to be less self-centered, to accept sudden, surprising outbursts of affection, and not to be upset by a few scratches on your car.”

Today I Made a Difference

Today I Made a Difference

I'll never bring about world peace. I won't single handedly save the rain forest. I'm not a brain surgeon and I'll never transplant an organ to save a life. I don't have the ear of a powerful politician or world power. I can't end world hunger. I'm not a…

A dog doesn't care if you're rich or poor, big or small, young or old. He doesn't care if you're not smart, not popular, not a good joke-teller, not the best athlete, nor the best-looking person. To your dog, you are the greatest, the smartest, the nicest human being who was ever born. You are his friend and protector.

Decorating with Pets

Decorating when you have pets can provide unique opportunities to express your own personal style and taste. Here are some tips I'd like to share:

  1. Bare floors, without carpet or throw rugs, can give a nice open feeling to a room. It can provide a soothing balance when you have any art objects that reflect your love of animals.

  2. Paw prints and nose smudges on glass doors and windows break up glare and often the light in a room.

  3. Dog crates,…

October is Adopt-a-Shelter-Dog Month

There are nearly 10 million pets that enter animal shelters across the country every year. October is National Adopt-a-Shelter Dog Month, which focuses attention on the pet overpopulation problem we have in the United States. With millions of pets to choose from, why not at least check out area shelters to see if the right companion might be waiting for you!

Please visit Petfinder for a list of shelters in your area.

NOAH (North Okaloosa Humane Society)

Dear Friend,

I work for the local Humane Society, in a VERY small town here in Florida.

If you would like you can see what we are all about on Petfinder.

I am looking for support for our community. One of the ways

in which we may receive support is through your involvement

in ZooToo.com. It only takes a moment to register and the site has a lot

of useful information for pet lovers. Even if you are only able to register,

it would help us help…

Things We Can Learn from Dogs

Never pass up the chance for a joy ride.

Allow the experience of fresh air and the wind in your face to be pure ecstasy.

When loved ones come home, always run to greet them.

Take naps and stretch before rising.

Run, romp and play daily.

Be loyal. Never pretend to be something you are not.

If what you want lies buried, dig until you find it.

When someone is having a bad day, be silent, sit close by and nuzzle them gently.

Avoid biting…

Thought for the Day

"He is your friend, your partner, your defender, your dog. You are his life, his love, his leader. He will be yours, faithful and true, to the last beat of his heart. You owe it to him to be worthy of such devotion" -- Unknown

Ellen D

I was wondering what other people thought about the Ellen D news? As I do work at a Humane Society and the clause of not giving away the adoptee is pretty standard procedure. Not that we would have taken the pup away. We are always at the breaking point for space, and are pretty agreeable to this if the new home is suitable. We would only force the issue if the pup was given to a "bad" home. The return issue is mainly so the pet doesn't end up in a kill shelter. At least that is how we… Continue
